Recycle and Hazardous Waste
The City of Bloomington Sanitation Department collects recyclable materials every week on our normal trash day (Tuesday). A recycling bin is provided to each household and recyclable items (paper, metal and glass containers, and plastics labelled #1 to #7 can be mixed in the bin without bagging the materials. For more information, or to request a refrigerator magnet with recycling pickup dates, visit the City of Bloomington’s recycling page. Please note this page contains an extensive list of non-recyclable materials which should not be included in the recycle bin (styrofoams, pizza boxes, etc.)
Hazardous materials should be taken to Monroe County Solid Waste Management District‘s Central Station, located at 3400 South Walnut Street, open 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. Recyclable materials can also be dropped off at the Central Station during their normal business hours.
